Tips For Applying For Scholarships
By Pondered.org
One of the main tips for applying for scholarships
is to make sure you know that there are many, many
scholarships available. You can get a list of the
scholarships offered by the college or university you
plan to attend and then look at the more than 130
programs offered by the federal government. You do not
have to apply for all of them because many of them will
not apply to you.
Applying for a scholarship is very similar to applying
for student aid. You have to look through the lists of
available scholarships and choose the ones that apply to
you. For example, if you are applying for a nursing
program, you would not apply for scholarships offered to
those entering education. Within the list of
scholarships that do apply to you, you will find some
that are only open to employees of a certain company or
for students in a specific geographic area, so you can
exclude those as well.
When you have your list narrowed down, you will have to
submit a separate application for each one. For the
scholarships that are based on high academic
achievement, you do have to make sure you include the
correct information about your high school or the
college you are attending so the scholarship committee
can obtain the record of your
grades.
Some scholarships are based on an essay that you write.
This is a perfect opportunity for those who do not have
an A average to qualify for funding that you don’t have
to repay. Write your essay and submit it along with your
application. You may be very surprised to learn that you
are the recipient of an award.
Read the eligibility requirements for each scholarship
very carefully. For most of them the additional
information that you have to submit includes:
A transcript of your marks
SAT scores
Copy of financial aid form that you have submitted
(FAFSA)
Parent’s financial information (for scholarships that
are based on need)
An essay if one is required
Letters of recommendation
Proof of eligibility (in the case of company or
organization scholarships)
You may also need to prepare for a personal interview as
many scholarship committees like to meet with the people
them deem worthy of a scholarship.
