Article 1 Objectives
The objectives upon which
the MediaTek Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “the
Foundation”)
was established include
assisting schools in promoting the advancement of
scientific knowledge
and furthering the
development of education in information technology. The
MediaTek
Foundation has established
the MediaTek International Student Fellowship in order
to encourage
outstanding international
graduate students to study and undertake research in
Taiwan, thereby
promoting international
academic exchange.
Article 2 Eligibility
Applicants for the MediaTek
International Student Fellowship must be students of
foreign
(non-R.O.C.) nationalities
who have already received a letter of acceptance from
one of the
Taiwanese universities
listed below as of the application date and who are to
be enrolled the same year as the application date in a
Master’s or Ph.D. program in electronics engineering,
electrical engineering, computer science or information
technology at one of the following universities:
National Taiwan University,
National Tsinghua University, National Chiao Tung
University,
National Cheng Kung
University or National Central University. In addition,
students of foreign
nationalities who have been
accepted by one of the programs listed above as foreign
exchange
students are also eligible
for this Fellowship.
Article 3 Award
The MediaTek International
Student Fellowship shall be awarded to a maximum of six
recipients
per year. Each recipient
shall receive a stipend between US$10,000 and US$15,000
per year. In
the case of students whose
period of study in Taiwan is less than one year, the
amount of the
stipend shall be adjusted
by the length of time that the student will actually be
studying in Taiwan.
Students enrolled in
master’s programs may receive the stipend for up to a
maximum of two
years; students enrolled in
Ph.D. programs may receive the stipend for up to a
maximum of four
years.
Article 4 Deadline
Applications for the
MediaTek International Student Fellowship must be
received by the end of May each year.
Article 5 Announcement
The list of successful
applicants who have been awarded a Fellowship stipend
will be announced
by the end of June each
year.
Article 6 Obligations and
Restrictions
1. Fellowship recipients’
Master’s or Ph.D. thesis and any other publications
supported by this
Fellowship must include the
following notice “This work was supported by the
MediaTek
International Student
Fellowship”.
2. Every year during the
period of receipt of the Fellowship stipend, the
recipient must submit
to the MediaTek Foundation
a copy of their grade report, a copy of their research
progress
report, and copies of any
papers they have had published, together with a copy of
their
Master’s or Ph.D. thesis
(if completed).
3. If, during the period of
receipt of the Fellowship stipend, the university at
which the
recipient is studying
reports any of the following incidences to the
Foundation, or if the
Foundation confirms that
the following incidences have indeed taken place, then
the
Foundation may terminate
payment of the stipend immediately:
(1) If, in addition to the
MediaTek International Student Fellowship stipend, the
student is
also in receipt of any
other scholarship (including scholarships awarded by
Taiwan’s
Ministry of Education),
receives payment for work as a teaching assistant or
research
assistant, or receives any
form of public assistance in the same year.
(2) If the student
undertakes paid part-time or full-time work at any
public or private
institution or company.
(3) If the student leaves
the university at which they are studying due to
suspension,
expulsion, or any other
reason.
Article 7 Other
These Regulations shall
come into effect immediately upon approval by Board of
Directors of the
MediaTek Foundation, as
shall any revisions hereto.
