International Baccalaureate Scholarships

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a two-year
program corresponding with 11th and 12th grade Lykeion
that prepares students for entry to the best
universities worldwide. Students transfer into the IB
program upon completion of the 10 grade (1st grade
Lykeion). The IB Diploma is also fully equivalent to the
Greek high school diploma (Law 2327, 1995).
It is taught in English, French or Spanish in 116
countries, and is offered by more than 1350 authorized
schools. Anatolia College introduced the program in
1998, and its graduates have been accepted at
universities such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT,
Stanford, Brown, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Northwestern and
others in the U.S.A; Cambridge, UCL (University College
London), Imperial College, York, Bath, Warwick,
Edinburgh and Glasgow in Great Britain; the Sorbonne in
France; Bocconi and La Sapienza in Italy; among many
others.
The IB program at Anatolia is open to students from
other schools and of all nationalities provided they
have an adequate command of the English language and can
show they are motivated and ready to adopt the work
habits suitable for the demands of the IB curriculum.
Students from Albania, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada,
Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Ireland,
Italy, Macedonia(FYROM), Norway, Romania, Russia, Spain
Sweden and the U.S. have enrolled in the program in
recent years, along with the majority of Greek students.
Anatolia’s IB program strives to be not only the 1st
choice, but also an affordable choice for those wishing
to study at a College or University in the U.S. or
Europe or beyond. To that end, Anatolia offers a number
of scholarships to students based on an assessment of
both the student’s academic credentials as well as the
family’s financial situation.
The number of available scholarships varies as does the
amount awarded to recipient students but normally
between 10% and 20% of the program’s incoming class
receive some form of scholarship which varies from 10%
and 100% of tuition. The amount of a scholarship award
depends on demonstrated financial need and the candidate
student's academic performance. Both are also considered
in ensuring that any aid awarded is continued in the
second year of the program (i.e. continued financial
need and strong academic performance during the 1st year
of the IB program).
How can Ι apply?
There are two types of scholarship :
1. Scholarships typically covering more than 25% and up
to 100% of the program’s annual tuition. These are
heavily influenced by the family’s financial situation
and require specific documents to be submitted for
consideration. Candidates wishing to be considered for
such awards should submit to the IB department’s
registrar the following documents:
a letter explaining in detail the candidate's
educational objectives and particularly addressing why
he/she wishes to study in the IB program
the complete tax statements of the person(s) financially
responsible for the candidate (parents/guardians) for
the last two years, including the real estate tax
statement.
a completed Financial Aid Application Form in which the
candidate’s parent/guardian explains his/her family's
extenuating financial circumstances.
2. Scholarships amounting to less than 25% of the
program’s annual tuition. These require no documentation
of financial need. These awards are generally meant to
simply recognize and reward a student's academic
accomplishments and potential. Candidates wishing to be
considered for such awards should submit to the IB
department’s registrar the following documents:
a letter/essay explaining in detail the candidate's
educational objectives and particularly addressing why
he/she wishes to study in the IB program.
school transcripts of years 9 and 10 (G Gymnasiou, A’
Lykeiou).
When should I apply?
Candidates must submit the required documentation along
with their application for admission to the program or
certainly no later than the admissions deadline.
Scholarships are normally renewed on an annual basis as
long as the recipient a) maintains a minimum year
average of 33/42 , b) has no disciplinary action
recorded against him/her and c) continues to demonstrate
financial need.
Who is eligible?
Any candidate applying for admission to the IB program
may apply for a scholarship. Anatolia does not
discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex,
national origin, age or disability in the administration
of its academic and admission policies, scholarship and
financial assistance programs. Minimum requirements are
adjusted annually although typically scholarships are
only awarded to students with a minimum A’ Lykeiou grade
>17 (A- for international students). For those applying
for type A scholarship awards (>25%), an annual family
income not exceeding €29,000 euros (4-member family) is
typically required and Greek citizens and permanent
residents are normally expected to sit a written exam in
English and Mathematics, and go through an interview
with the Scholarship Committee. This requirement may be
waived only in exceptional circumstances. Interviews for
international students are not required, but are
recommended.
What happens after I apply?
Notification regarding a scholarship award is made
around the end of May.
